Galle Tour

The town of Galle having a rich history also shows a very vibrant contrast of the old and modern worlds and the visitor fully experience both. The place is packed with activities and jaw-dropping sceneries especially on the beach side which proves to be the perfect place to catch the sunset. If you are at the southern coast the trip can be started fairly late, however from Colombo the trip should ideally start by 7.00am.

The Galle Fort is a marvelous structure built by the Portuguese in the 16th century which was then taken over by the Dutch in the 17th Century. This UNESCO world heritage site brings forth a beautiful blend of the European and local architecture and is also home to some great restaurants nearby when taking a break from the tour.

The Madhu River lies marshy mangrove forest which is a nature lovers dream filled with many specified animals and birds. Its rich biodiversity bring ecologists and biologists alike to explore the marshland in a quite canoe ride.

One of the few turtle hatcheries in the country, the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery is a must visit for any visitor in the area. You will be able to first hand be a part of releasing a little turtle into the ocean and it can be a life changing experience. It can be very informative and you can learn all there is to know about these endangered species.

After a tiring day of exploration we will have the opportunity to wind down in Unawatuna beach and maybe go for a dip in the warm waters and have a cold one. What a better way to end the tour just before heading back to base.
