Temple of the tooth relic or Sri Dalada Maligawa locates in #Kandy, the center of this little island as well as the Last Kingdom in Sri Lanka. This sacred place is one of the most important religious places for all Buddhists in #SriLanka since there is a tooth of the Lord Buddha. The tooth is housing in a heavily guarded room, and it only opens at the time of praying (puja). This sacred tooth relic is in a gold casket that contains a series of caskets of diminishing sizes. People also named this glorious place as “Dalada Maligawa’’ which translates to the palace, and the temple is part of the palace. The palace is old as over three centuries, and the temple of the sacred tooth relic is a #UNESCO world #heritage site.

Sigiriya or Sinhagiri is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of #Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 metres (660 ft) high.⁠

According to the ancient #SriLankan chronicle the Culavamsa, this site was selected by King Kashyapa (477 – 495 CE) for his new capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure — Sīnhāgiri, the Lion Rock (an etymology similar to Sinhapura, the Sanskrit name of Singapore, the Lion City).⁠

The capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century. Sigiriya today is a #UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best-preserved examples of ancient urban planning.⁠

This is a strange palace with a mixture of classical Hindu temples and Tantric Buddhist architecture. This structure undergoes a history about thousands of years since the evidence suggest that, this has created between the 8th and 10th century AD. Nalanda Gedige has a standard framework of a Hindu temple, including mandaps (Halls use for special occasions), a
main central shrine, and an ambulatory around this.

Some historians believe that Nalanda Gedige is a combination of both Sinhala and Tamil Cultures. Nine Arches Bridge is an amazing construction of human which locates in the hill country of this tiny island. This has built 3100 m above the sea level, between Demodara and Ella railway stations. This bridge wonders that this has entirely made from bricks, rocks, and cement. This construction has stood solidly, without any tiny split since 1921. Nine Arches Bridge is one of the major reasons to become Ella a more attractive tourist destination in Sri Lanka.

Buduruwagala gives the meaning of “the rock with the statue of Buddha” and it has located about 5km from the Wellawaya on Thanamalwila Road. There are seven carved statues in the rock with 51 feet high Buddha statue. This Buddha statue is in the Abhaya Mudra gesture at the center. The specialty of this rock is, this has the shape of a kneeling elephant. These carving have similarities with the Mahayana Buddha style.

The centered statue has flanked by two statues in 40 feet in height and these two statues also have flanked with another two figures. One is female and another figure is a male one. The middle figure on the left side has thought to be as the figure of Avalokitheshwara Bodhisattva, while two flanked figures consider as Thara Devi who is the spiritual consort of Avalokitheshwara Bodhisathwa. And the male figure considers as their son Prince Sudana. And the middle figure of the right side has considered as Maithri Bodhisattva.

This has located in the center of Sri Lanka in Dambulla Town. Dambulla cave temple is a pilgrimage site for 22 centuries. This attractive rock temple has situated about 160 m above the road. This is a living Buddhist site, with a series of five cave shrines. The five separate caves have about 150 stunning Buddha statues and paintings which considers as Sri Lanka’s most important religious arts.

These Buddha images have a history of more than 2000 years. Over the centuries, kings who have ruled this area embellished and added new arts into this. Many people state that Dambulla considered a worship place since the 1st century BC when king Walagamba ruled here. Dambulla cave temple also calls as Ran Giri Dambulla Temple (Golden Rock Temple), because King Nissanka Malla had gilded the interior of the caves.
