A largely untouched region of the country is the previously war-torn Northern cities of Jaffna and Mannar. Ravaged by the nearly 3-decade long war, Mannar in the north of Sri Lanka boasts pristine beaches of the Mannar basin and is home to an archeological feature, the Adam’s bridge that once linked the island to India. Bird watching is a popular attraction when visiting Mannar, as the migrating flamingos are a popular site along the canals and waterways in and around the coastal town. Bird watching is also one of the other attractions that nature has to offer at Kitulgala when booking your adventure tourism package. Kumana National Park is an eco-tourism destination just 35 kms from Arugam Bay, having over 255 species of birds at this sanctuary. Kumana has grown in popularity as a site for bird-watching due to the Kumana Villu, a 200 ha natural swamp that attracts pelicans, painted storks, spoonbills, white ibis, herons, egrets and cormorants.
