Bird Watching

A largely untouched region of the country is the previously war-torn Northern cities of Jaffna and Mannar. Kumana National Park is an eco-tourism destination just 35 kms from Arugam Bay, having over 255 species of birds at this sanctuary. Kumana has grown in popularity as a site for bird-watching due to the Kumana Villu, a 200 ha natural swamp that attracts pelicans, painted storks, spoonbills, white ibis, herons, egrets and cormorants.
